Meet Three Scientists On The Frontline Of Australia’s Climate Crisis

Dr Emma Kennedy of the Remote Sensing Research Centre was one of three scientists recently featured in an article by Grace Back of Marie Claire. The article acknowledges Emma’s tireless efforts and commitment to the the Great Barrier Reef, particularly surrounding the unprecedented back-to-back coral bleaching events in 2016 and 2017, resulting in the loss of over 50 percent of its corals.

Emma is currently working on the Global Coral Reef Mapping Project. This project aims to develop and apply a consistent mapping approach to map each coral reef globally, through international partnership funded through Vulcan (Paul Allen Philanthropies). The mapping component of the study is based on approached developed and implemented for the Great Barrier Reef.
